The European Union part 1

I have decided to finally put something on my blog site about this subject. I have for a long time felt that this organisation which we belong to is destructive and controlling. For many people I talk to about this subject there is a real sense of disinterest or negativity to what I am saying. If you have read any of my previous posts you will quickly realise that I believe strongly in publishing facts and getting to the truth. I have been a member of UKIP now for over two years and the reason I got involved with them is because they are the only ones who will tell you the truth about the EU. We are now totally enmeshed within this organisation, if you haven't realised already I will tell you this, the EU is undemocratic, unaccountable, corrupt and run by unelected bureaucrats.

Gisela Stuart, British Labour MP, former Minister and Member of the convention on the future of Europe, which drew up the EU Constitution said talking about the Lisbon Treaty:

"This treaty gives all the real power to political elites. Citizens become no more than mere spectators. That's not democracy - we deserve a better Europe than that".

The EU is undemocratic for the simple reason that the decisions that are made, the laws that are brought out are decided upon by unelected bureaucrats, in the form of the EU Commission and The Council of Ministers. I will be honest with you, I could go into a lot of detail about these two institutions but it would take up too much time and space. Suffice to say they are are not elected, not accountable to anyone and cannot be removed by the people of Europe, as far as I am concerned that isn't democracy. If you are asking "what about the EU Parliament?" Well that is just a facade of democracy with no overall party in charge and which cannot stop any legislation being pushed through.

The EU is corrupt for many reason, but I will stick to this one example; the EU's budget has not been signed off by the EU's own auditors for the past 15 years, literally billions of pounds of our money has disappeared and no one has been held to account for it. The only person who has ever spoken out about this was Marta Andreason (the EU's head accountant) and she was sacked by Neil Kinnock for refusing to sign off the 2001 budget.

In 2005 a number of countries within the EU had a referendum on the EU Constitution, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair said as part of their manifesto in the run up to the 2005 general elections that we in this country could have a referendum. In 2005 the French and Dutch people voted against it, so Gordon Brown and Tony Blair said, that since the EU Constitution had been defeated we did not need to have a referendum (fair enough I suppose). Unfortunately for us and the people of Europe this wasn't the end of the constitution, the EU decided that the people of Europe were too stupid and made the wrong decision and decided in 2007 to bring out the Lisbon Treaty. All of the governments decided that the people of Europe should not be allowed to have a say in this and, all but one were allowed to have a referendum (Ireland). Gordon Brown told us that it was different so we were not going to be given the opportunity to have a referendum even though he promised we could have one. Let me explain, the Lisbon Treaty is basically the same as the EU Constitution, Angela Merkal (the German Chancellor) said so, the ex-president of France who wrote the thing said so and Gisela Stuart MP (see above) said so as well. Basically anyone who cared to read it said it was the same as the Constitution. Gordon Brown lied and went back on a promise (what does this say about the man).

If you think the Liberals were any better, they joined with Labour and voted against us having a referendum. You might be saying to yourself "well surely the Tories would give us a referendum?" sorry to disappoint you but David Cameron went even further. He said in The Sun newspaper that he would give us a 'cast iron guarantee' that if the Conservatives made government they would give us a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. Unfortunately for us he decided that he would not gives us one and he reneged on that promise, saying that since it has been ratified there is no point. He said that he would give the British people a referendum if the EU brought out anymore treaty's. Well I can tell you now that that is not going to happen and David Cameron knows full well that the EU does not need to bring out anymore treaty's as this one is self amending.

'Article 48 of the Lisbon treaty allows the Council of Ministers (unelected and behind closed doors) to vote by unanimity to change any text or part of the treaty on the functioning of the treaty.'

This basically means, if the EU want too they can do whatever they want and no one can stop them. This was shown to be true when Ireland was forced to have a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty even though they voted against (would they have been forced to have another referendum if they had voted for it). This will now speed up the removal of power from governments and in a very short time the EU will have total power and we will be living in a dictatorship. If you don't believe me look at the new EU President, he is unelected and we cannot remove him. He is now talking of making the EU an economic government which will mean that the Chancellor will not be able to set our budget for the year without the say so of Brussels.

Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin, quoted in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 21/07/09 said this:
"democracies are complex ... would a dictatorship not be delightfully simple?"

Does this not concern you, it does me and that is why I will keep fighting until we get our democracy back.

I could go on and on but I will end with this:

The EU cost us in 2008/9 £6.4 billion, it is going to cost us in 2010/11 £7.6 billion, that is our net contribution, we get nothing back, we are the second largest contributor after the Germans.

Global warming?

For many people, and I include myself, the environment is a very important, if not the most important issue that faces our world today. We live in a world of finite resources and a world that really needs to take a serious look at what is happening to this beautiful planet. On a week by week basis it seems we hear of some global catastrophe, I don't know if that is the reality but it does seem to be like that. Because of our greed and desire for wealth and power there seems to be an overwhelming drive to destroy so many beautiful parts of the Earth, whether it be the the cutting down of the rain forests or polluting of rivers or the destruction of indigenous tribal regions. Over recent times there has been a growth in environmental groups and I am pleased that this has happened, if we didn't have these we would probably see more and more destruction.

At the present time there is an obsession with 'climate change' and in particular 'man made global warming', for many years I would have agreed with the orthodox view that our world was warming up and this was going to bring about huge calamities upon us if we didn't start doing something about it. I have to say that I have changed my mind and I no longer believe in this theory. When I have stated this to some people I have been met with incredulity and an almost disdain for my views. The reason I have changed my mind is because I have started to look at the facts, rather than subjective emotional scientific theory. A lot of scientist would say that it is now proven that our world is warming up and it is all down to CO2 emissions, the reality is somewhat different to the theory. Currently carbon dioxide makes up a tiny percentage of the gases in our atmoshpere and is running at levels of roundabout 390 parts per million, if we look at core drilling samples from around the globe going back millennia there have been times when they have been as high as 7000 parts per million.

We have been told by so called experts that the sea levels are going to rise due to melting ice in the Arctic. The sea-ice of the Arctic had shrunk in September 2007 to its lowest level ever recorded, this prompted a rash of excitable predictions that possibly as soon as 2008 the summer ice might vanish altogether. Yet two winters running it returned so strongly that in the winter of 2008 it briefly reached an extent equal to that recorded 30 years before 1979. The Maldives, where the IPCC's tide gauge data showed sea levels to be rising, independent research based upon extensive field observations has shown levels to have fallen by between 20 and 30 centimetres in the 1970's, and since to have remained stable. In 2008 Polar bear numbers, far from diminishing towards extinction as predicted, were at their highest level ever recorded.

We have been told by scientists that the latter years of the 20th century were the warmest ever, but there is clear evidence that from 1000AD to 1400AD the Earth was warmer then than now, it is called the medieval warming period (Google it if you don't believe me).

Wind energy is the new thing, unfortunately the facts don't bare out the theory on this issue. For many people wind turbines should be built all over our beautiful countryside thus causing huge destruction to what is left of it. Again lets look at some facts; the wind industry only talk of turbines in terms of 'capacity'. In fact, of course, thanks to the wind's intermittency, the actual amount of power turbines produce , unreliably and unpredictably, amounts on average to only around a quarter of their 'capacity'. Denmark has been a great advocate for wind power, but in 2004 turbines nominally represented 20 per cent of their electricity production, the wind blew so inconsistently that it in fact provided only 6 per cent of the power the country consumed. Because at almost any given time it either had too little or too much. Denmark either had to import at considerable cost from other countries, or, worse export it at a loss to Norway because there is no way of storing it. Our government has decided to go ahead with building thousands of wind turbines without thinking of the consequences for our future energy needs, unfortunately for you and me this means in a very short period of time we will be totally reliant on other countries for our energy. Let me say this, this country led the world in nuclear energy in the 50's and 60's and we have over 200 years worth of coal sitting underneath us, it does seem rather shortsighted and stupid not to be using this resource.

Finally, in the last 10 years the earth has cooled down, the last 3 winters in this country have been the coldest in years, there has been no discernible increase in temperature since 1998. The Met office predicted in July 2009 that August 2009 was going to be exceptionally hot, it wasn't, the Met office predicted that this last winter was going to be very mild, on the 10th Dec they changed their mind and said there was a 50/50 chance of it being mild or cold, I think I could do their job and do it for free. How on earth do they expect us to believe that they can some how predict what the weather is going to be in 50 years time when they can't predict what is going to happen next month.

As I have said in my first paragraph, I am an environmentalist, but I think we are focusing on the wrong thing, politicians and scientists need to look at the destruction of our beautiful environment rather than focusing on some dubious science.

George Orwell said in the novel 1984 'everything faded into mist. The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth'. I believe that we need to look at facts and not theory, we cannot change history but we can affect this world by our actions now by changing our policies and not allowing the myth of ' man made global warming ' to be all consuming and destructive.

Immigration

This issue above all others unfortunately has become the most contentious issue in the last 10 years. I believe there has to be a debate about this and something has to be done. Over the last few years we have seen the debate around immigration pushed to one side and anyone who has dared to stand up and speak about it has been shouted down with the accusation that they are racist. I do find this situation both shocking and disheartening, how can it be racist to stand up and speak out about something that really concerns you. Recently we have found out under the freedom of information act that this policy of mass immigration was decided upon by this Labour government to make our country more multicultural and to gain more votes ( it seems that more immigrants are likely to vote Labour than any other party).

When I have spoken to people about immigration I have always tried to emphasise the issue of mass immigration not immigration, this country has always been a country that has welcomed immigrants. Ironically it does seem that this policy has shot Labour in the foot. I would say that this country as a whole has always been a very tolerant country but over recent years we have seen a growing intolerance towards immigrants, this has been shown by the rise in support for the BNP. I have spoken to many people on the streets and on door steps and this issue always comes up in conversation, and we are not talking about jack booted Nazi thugs, we are talking about normal people who have concerns but feel they are not being listened to. Someone once said "The greatest need of the human heart is to be heard" and I believe this to be true, politicians need to start listening and need to do something about this issue.

For me immigration brings a number of issues which I could go into great detail about but I want to highlight just this one and that is SPACE. I have found when talking to people that we have all got our opinions on things, when listening to politicians you know that they are trying to put some sort of political spin so I have decided to stick to the facts. I believe this country is too crowded, and being very densely populated can bring huge problems. Lets look at some facts:

The United Kingdom has a population of over 61 million.

Great Britain in now the most densely populated country in Europe (it was Holland until last year).

Great Britain is now the 3rd most densely populated country in the world after South Korea and Bangladesh (this is with countries of more than 10 million).

Russia (largest country in the world with 11 time zones) population 140 million. The UK has a population about 43% of Russia and you could fit the UK into Russia about 70 times.

Canada (2nd largest country) population 33.4 million.

Australia (5th largest country) population 21.2 million.

Argentina (8th largest country) population 41 million.

Kazakhstan (largest landlocked country) population 15.4 million.

New Zealand (10,000 sq miles bigger than the UK) population 4.2 million.

Norway (25,000 sq miles bigger than the UK) population 4.6 million.

Sweden (64,000 sq miles bigger than the UK) population 9 million.

Thailand and France have similar size populations but are both over twice the size of the UK.

Last fact, the state of Wyoming in the USA is 3000 sq miles bigger than the UK but has a population the size of Suffolk (600,000).

I could list many more countries and give you many more facts but I think this highlights one issue above any others. Until something is done we will see the rise of the far right and as we all know from history this can bring huge problems. I personally believe that immigration needs to be stopped for 5 years, just so we can see who is in this country. There are many undesirables (criminals) who are abusing our open borders policy. I do think it is ironic that as this government wants to clamp down more and more on personal freedoms with ID cards greater surveillance and with the added threat of terrorism we are continuing to let anyone who wants to come into this country do so.

One last thought, we have many millions of unemployed in this country, over 187,000 people have lost their jobs in the construction industry alone in the last 18 months, why are we allowing foreigners into this country when we haven't got enough jobs for those who are living here already.
