I have decided to finally put something on my blog site about this subject. I have for a long time felt that this organisation which we belong to is destructive and controlling. For many people I talk to about this subject there is a real sense of disinterest or negativity to what I am saying. If you have read any of my previous posts you will quickly realise that I believe strongly in publishing facts and getting to the truth. I have been a member of UKIP now for over two years and the reason I got involved with them is because they are the only ones who will tell you the truth about the EU. We are now totally enmeshed within this organisation, if you haven't realised already I will tell you this, the EU is undemocratic, unaccountable, corrupt and run by unelected bureaucrats.
Gisela Stuart, British Labour MP, former Minister and Member of the convention on the future of Europe, which drew up the EU Constitution said talking about the Lisbon Treaty:
"This treaty gives all the real power to political elites. Citizens become no more than mere spectators. That's not democracy - we deserve a better Europe than that".
The EU is undemocratic for the simple reason that the decisions that are made, the laws that are brought out are decided upon by unelected bureaucrats, in the form of the EU Commission and The Council of Ministers. I will be honest with you, I could go into a lot of detail about these two institutions but it would take up too much time and space. Suffice to say they are are not elected, not accountable to anyone and cannot be removed by the people of Europe, as far as I am concerned that isn't democracy. If you are asking "what about the EU Parliament?" Well that is just a facade of democracy with no overall party in charge and which cannot stop any legislation being pushed through.
The EU is corrupt for many reason, but I will stick to this one example; the EU's budget has not been signed off by the EU's own auditors for the past 15 years, literally billions of pounds of our money has disappeared and no one has been held to account for it. The only person who has ever spoken out about this was Marta Andreason (the EU's head accountant) and she was sacked by Neil Kinnock for refusing to sign off the 2001 budget.
In 2005 a number of countries within the EU had a referendum on the EU Constitution, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair said as part of their manifesto in the run up to the 2005 general elections that we in this country could have a referendum. In 2005 the French and Dutch people voted against it, so Gordon Brown and Tony Blair said, that since the EU Constitution had been defeated we did not need to have a referendum (fair enough I suppose). Unfortunately for us and the people of Europe this wasn't the end of the constitution, the EU decided that the people of Europe were too stupid and made the wrong decision and decided in 2007 to bring out the Lisbon Treaty. All of the governments decided that the people of Europe should not be allowed to have a say in this and, all but one were allowed to have a referendum (Ireland). Gordon Brown told us that it was different so we were not going to be given the opportunity to have a referendum even though he promised we could have one. Let me explain, the Lisbon Treaty is basically the same as the EU Constitution, Angela Merkal (the German Chancellor) said so, the ex-president of France who wrote the thing said so and Gisela Stuart MP (see above) said so as well. Basically anyone who cared to read it said it was the same as the Constitution. Gordon Brown lied and went back on a promise (what does this say about the man).
If you think the Liberals were any better, they joined with Labour and voted against us having a referendum. You might be saying to yourself "well surely the Tories would give us a referendum?" sorry to disappoint you but David Cameron went even further. He said in The Sun newspaper that he would give us a 'cast iron guarantee' that if the Conservatives made government they would give us a referendum on the Lisbon Treaty. Unfortunately for us he decided that he would not gives us one and he reneged on that promise, saying that since it has been ratified there is no point. He said that he would give the British people a referendum if the EU brought out anymore treaty's. Well I can tell you now that that is not going to happen and David Cameron knows full well that the EU does not need to bring out anymore treaty's as this one is self amending.
'Article 48 of the Lisbon treaty allows the Council of Ministers (unelected and behind closed doors) to vote by unanimity to change any text or part of the treaty on the functioning of the treaty.'
This basically means, if the EU want too they can do whatever they want and no one can stop them. This was shown to be true when Ireland was forced to have a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty even though they voted against (would they have been forced to have another referendum if they had voted for it). This will now speed up the removal of power from governments and in a very short time the EU will have total power and we will be living in a dictatorship. If you don't believe me look at the new EU President, he is unelected and we cannot remove him. He is now talking of making the EU an economic government which will mean that the Chancellor will not be able to set our budget for the year without the say so of Brussels.
Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin, quoted in Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, 21/07/09 said this:
"democracies are complex ... would a dictatorship not be delightfully simple?"
Does this not concern you, it does me and that is why I will keep fighting until we get our democracy back.
I could go on and on but I will end with this:
The EU cost us in 2008/9 £6.4 billion, it is going to cost us in 2010/11 £7.6 billion, that is our net contribution, we get nothing back, we are the second largest contributor after the Germans.
