I have always been interested in facts, even from an early age I would spend time thumbing through an encyclopedia, old newspapers and books just to learn something interesting (or at least I found it interesting). One of my sad party tricks is knowing practically every capital of every country in the world. I didn't just learn them to show off my knowledge (or how sad I am)but I did it because I genuinely found it interesting. As I got older I found I didn't just want to know facts and figures but I also wanted to find the truth. I know some people will ask what is the truth? And some people say there can be more than one truth but that's a different argument for another day. What I am talking about are facts about what really happened at certain events, what are the reasons why someone did what they did and the truth behind the stories we hear on the news and read in newspapers. Generally, if you read something in a newspaper, depending on that newspaper's political bias they will print a story a certain way. For instance The Daily Mirror is left leaning and will paint Gordon Brown in a good light and make him out to almost be a saint and The Daily Mail will paint him as almost the Devil incarnate. So who is telling the truth? I think for most people it is very difficult to find out what the truth is because they don't have the time or inclination so they make up their mind based upon what they read, hear or see in the media.
I have for a number of years had this saying in my head "most people judge by what they think rather than what they know". I believe this to be true, we can look at someone and make a judgement, we can read something and make an opinion which is quite a natural thing to do. In the run up to this general election many parties will make many claims and rubbish their opponents policies, so for many people it is hard to know which one to vote for. I believe there has to be a change, I am not going to say "vote for UKIP" but I would ask that you be opened minded and don't believe everything you read or hear.
I am going to touch on a few subjects quickly here and in later postings I will go into greater detail about each of these subjects. I want you to ask yourself what you believe to be true about these subjects and if you have any time, go and research them and see what you find out. I will also give you some websites and book titles which will guide you on your journey to finding THE TRUTH. I will list them here and I want you to ask yourself what your initial reaction is, and what the orthodox view about these subjects are. Let me say this, I am not a conspiracy theorist, just someone who wants to know the truth.
1. Global warming; I have touched on this one before and I can tell you I have only scraped the top of the proverbial iceberg in my previous post. The more you delve into this particular subject the more you will find that so many of the so called experts are not that expert after all.
2. Asbestos; unbeknown to most people there are 3 different types of asbestos; brown, blue and white. Brown and blue are the dangerous ones and are made up of small metal fibres, white asbestos is a cement type material and makes up about ninety per cent of all so called asbestos, there is no clinical proof that this is dangerous.
3. Speed kills; (that's not the drug but driving too fast) only 7 per cent of deaths on our roads are caused by people speeding (Home Office figures). Why are we being told different? Maybe it has something to do with speed cameras and making money (call me cynical).
4. Terrorists; according to the government we are going to be attacked at any moment, maybe this has more to do with the governments agenda to bring in I.D cards and a DNA database and controlling the population by fear than genuine terrorism.
5. Saturated fat; is it really as dangerous as the government tells us, firstly there is no clinical evidence that saturated fat can cause heart disease, and secondly the Inuits in Northern Canada and Greenland have a diet which is practically totally full of saturated fat but they have no record of heart disease.
6. Passive smoking; is it really dangerous? What is the evidence about environmental tobacco smoke? In May 2003 the findings were made public of the longest most comprehensive scientific study ever carried out into the effects of passive smoking anywhere in the world. This project was launched 40 years previously by the American Cancer Society based on a study of 118,094 adults, including 35,000 couples of which only one partner was a smoker. The central findings of the study found no casual relation between environmental tobacco smoke and tobacco-related mortality. Ever heard anything about this study? No, I didn't think so, why didn't this study make world wide headlines?
7. The EU; is it really a fantastic organisation and beneficial to this nation? Ask yourself this question, this organisation controls practically every part of our lives but you hardly ever hear anything about it on the news. WHY IS THAT?
There you have 7 subjects to be going on with. You will continue to hear stories and be forced fed many things in your life, wouldn't it be nice to know what the truth is and not the propaganda? If you have the time and want to find the truth, start with these books and websites:
The Global warming disaster by Christoher Booker
Scared to Death by Christopher Booker and Richard North
Big Fat Lies (is your government making you fat) by Hannah Sutter
The Great Deception by Christopher Booker and Richard North

We live in a society that is growing more and more cynical, which I totally understand. We have politicans which very few people trust and I find that to be very sad. As someone who is taking his first steps into politics I want people to trust me, unfortunately I know that it is likely that so many people will view me as the same as everyone else. My hope is that I can change peoples view of politics and politicians but I do feel this will take years and will need a total change of government. I know that seems idealistic but I am going to give it a go and you never know what will happen in the future.
