I haven't published anything for quite a while, mainly because I have been very busy with my work, family and many other things.
I just wanted to put a few thoughts down, and also mention I have written a book since I last blogged. It is called 'Immigration - a study in arrogance and ignorance'. The main idea behind the book, is to try and put a different viewpoint behind the belief that immigration is always good and beneficial. I wanted to look into the reasons why so many of our political elite have, not only chosen to ignore people's concerns, but also stigmatise anyone who raised their concerns as racist.
The belief that anyone who says there should be controls on who comes into this country is somehow an extremist, who hates all foreigners, is incredibly (let's use a simple word) stupid! The uncontrolled nature of immigration into the UK over the last ten years or so is unprecedented. No time in our history have we had such an influx of humanity, and this basic fact cannot be ignored. Nor can those in power continue to ignore the problems this policy has brought to this country.
One of the problems I see with allowing so many people to come to this country, is the change it has brought to the culture and identity of Britain. It could be argued that we have only had about five million people come to this country and there are a lot more British people than that, so how could this impact upon the culture of this country? And also, surely it is a good thing for Britain to become more diverse, it makes us a more tolerant and open society because we then can understand how other cultures behave. It would then make us less suspicious and less likely to go to war and create a utopia in which everyone lives side by side in harmony. The truth, of course is completely different, it fails to take into consideration whether or not those who come to this country actually integrate or whether they stay within their own ethnic group. I would say, having spoken to many people that a lot of the new arrivals to this country over the past few years have failed to integrate, thus creating distrust and disharmony. This is particularly true within the Muslim communities.
I could write a lot more, but that is all I want to say for now. I will try to blog a bit more often.
